The Director of Agriculture is responsible for leading and overseeing all company agronomy programs, strategies, and innovations to ensure industry leading production standards and best practices in the private label vegetable industry are met. This would include developing crop plans, nutrient programs, spray application, irrigation resources and over-all field management strategies. The individual will work directly with plant management, while being a resource to the Agriculture Managers, to ensure consistent growing methods and crop yields across the organization. The areas of key responsibilities for this role are very broad and thus require thorough knowledge of various horticultural science and management related disciplines, leadership skills and business processes.

What You'll Do:

  • Provides leadership and sets guidelines for establishing goals and metrics for the organization agriculture program

  • Continually work to improve the operational capabilities and outputs of all growing locations

  • Responsible for developing and executing long term production plans and delivers on key production metrics set by the company

  • Collaborates with all processing facilities to effectively execute harvesting strategies and proper delegation of product

  • Works closely with department heads on planning and budgeting of agricultural programs

  • Ensures all projects are completed on-time and on-budget and communicates with upper management and third-party resources as necessary

  • Takes responsibility and initiative in smooth running of all agricultural operations

  • Liaises with other departments, including finance, accounting, marketing, HR etc. to ensure agricultural department goals and needs are met effectively

  • Facilitate with sites the development and execution of pest management programs to ensure adequate disease and insect control

  • Ensure agronomy programs promote optimal growth and quality such as field preparations for planting, seed handling and harvesting, irrigation system application and uniformity and chemical application

  • Responsible for cost controls and budgeting of the agricultural department

  • And all other responsibilities assigned by the VP of Operations

What You'll Bring:

  • A four year college degree is preferred or equivalent plus 10 years of Agriculture experience.
  • Should have overall knowledge of field operations and equipment. General mechanical knowledge beneficial but not necessary.
  • Language Skills:
    • Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations.
    • Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.
    • Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, customers, and the general public.
  • Mathematical Skills:
    • Ability to add, subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole numbers, common fractions, and decimals.
    • Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent and to draw and interpret bar graphs.
  • Reasoning Ability:
    • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists.
    • Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.
