Broken Bat Brewing Co. recently finished the expansion of its 6,000-square-foot upstairs taproom, which the brewery hopes will grow its private events business.

Already, Broken Bat has celebrated corporate events, rehearsal dinners, baby showers and graduation parties. The brewery has a wedding in the space later this year and three weddings booked for 2023.

"We’re really hitting anything from 10-12 people all the way up through our capacity of 215 up there," Broken Bat owner Tim Pauly said. "We found a surprisingly nice, sweet spot has been the corporate events."

The brewery hired a full-time event manager to run the private events business.

Broken Bat is based at 135 E. Pittsburgh Ave. in Milwaukee's Walker's Point neighborhood. The brewery moved into its new facility in June 2020. The business completed a lease-to-own agreement of the facility in 2019 and then had the option to buy in June 2021.

Broken Bat's brewing production has also been enhanced. The brewery expanded distribution up the Lake Michigan shoreline, covering the greater Green Bay, Manitowoc and Door County areas. Pauly said the brewery hopes to target markets closer to the middle of the state as well.

"We’re looking to continue to grow at a very manageable, maintainable rate," he said. "It’s a very meticulous ... process of growing from one market to the next. Hopefully we’re across the state in the next couple months."

The brewery also hired a new head brewer in January. Pauly expects there to be an entirely new beer menu at Broken Bat by summer 2023.
