Startup Milwaukee is launching a new program that will put the spotlight on southeast Wisconsin startups that make consumer products.

Similar to Startup Milwaukee's Emerge series, which focuses on tech startups, Tangible will become a recurring event by Startup Milwaukee that features business pitches from consumer product startups to a room of investors, corporate executives, service providers and other entrepreneurs.

The series is being sponsored in partnership with Kansas City-based business law firm Husch Blackwell, which has offices in Milwaukee, Waukesha and Madison.

"Milwaukee has a rich history of producing consumer product startups from Harley and Pabst to MKE Pretzel and Palermo’s. We are a city that makes things," said Matt Cordio, co-founder and president of Startup Milwaukee. "Tangible is a platform to highlight the next generation of consumer startups making tangible products and provide them with the support they need to grow and scale faster here in southeast Wisconsin."

The inaugural Tangible series will be hosted at Central Standard Craft Distillery, located at 613 S. 2nd St., on May 9. Consumer product startups pitching at the first event include:

  • Leashless Lab: Makes treats for dogs using spent beer grain from local breweries;

  • LiteZilla: Designs and manufactures custom products and exhibits in places like medical and hospitality spaces, houses of worship, children’s museums, libraries and science centers;

  • Madalyn Joy Designs: Custom lingerie business;

  • Sleepiphany:  Mattress manufacturer;

  • The Central Standard Craft Distillery: Craft distillery producing small batch spirits.
