The Wisconsin Economic Development Corporation will support Manitowoc-based Lakeside Foods' ongoing expansion with up to $1 million in tax credits.

Lakeside Foods, which supplies frozen food and canned vegetables, broke ground on a $40 million expansion in July that's expected to create 48 new jobs. Lakeside, which will receive up to $1 million in tax credits over three years from WEDC, is expected to complete the expansion by mid-2019.

"We considered numerous factors when planning our expansion, and ultimately the decision came down to the strength of Wisconsin’s food processing industry, a solid business infrastructure and the quality of the state’s workforce,” said Joe Yanda, senior vice president of operations for Lakeside Foods. "The culture of Wisconsin as an agricultural state in which people value honest work aligns well with Lakeside’s business of harvesting and selling produce and our commitment to delivering on the expectations of our customers.”

According to a WEDC release, the project includes a 100,000-square-foot addition to Lakeside's current frozen packaging and storage space to both meet needs of existing customers and foster growth and product innovation. The expansion also includes a redesign of the company's processing operations.

WEDC has awarded more than $14 million in Manitowoc County since 2015.
