The Minnesota maker of Brew Pub, Bellatoria and Orv's pizza products is expanding its plant in Kaukauna with the assistance of $350,000 in state income tax credits issued by the Wisconsin Economic Development Corp.

Bernatello’s Pizza, a frozen pizza manufacturer and distributor based in Edina, Minnesota, is planning a $24 million expansion in Kaukauna that's expected to create 48 jobs over the next three years. The 30,000-square-foot expansion includes a new high-speed, double-pizza topping line designed to increase efficiency and strengthen the company’s market position, according to a press release from WEDC.

The Kaukauna facility is the former Five Star Frozen Foods business that produced the Orv's brand of frozen pizza. It was acquired by the family-owned and operated Bernatello's seven years ago.

"The company has experienced steady growth since our acquisition of Orv’s Pizza in 2012 and we are committed to making Bernatello’s an employer of choice in the area,” said Dave Ramsay, Bernatello’s president and second-generation owner. "We believe our newly expanded state-of-the-art facility will not only provide us with significant operational efficiencies but also be a much more enjoyable and safe work environment.”

Bernatello's also has a manufacturing facility in Maple Lake, Minnesota, and another Wisconsin location in Eau Claire. The company’s brand family also includes Real’Za, Pizza Corner, Hangry Bear and Roma.

WEDC said the actual amount of tax credits Bernatello’s will receive is contingent upon the number of jobs created and the amount of capital investment during that period.
