Standards for the Growing, Harvesting, Packing and Holding of Produce for Human Consumption

The FDA Produce Safety rule established science-based minimum standards for the safe growing, harvesting, packing, and holding of fruits and vegetables grown for human consumption. The rule sets food safety requirements that include:
  • Microbial water quality and testing

  • Biological soil amendments

  • Prevention of sprout contamination

  • Contamination by domesticated and wild animals

  • Health and hygiene training, and

  • Sanitation for equipment, tools and buildings
